Right-back Perry was born in Cheltenham and had played as a defender for amateur club Worthing on the South coast before signing for Liverpool in July 1954 when he was 23-years-old. He played just once for the club's first-team, as part of the side beaten 2-1 by Blackburn Rovers at Anfield on New Years' Eve 1955.
