No.1: Ray Clemence
In our 100 Players Who Shook the Kop poll earlier this summer, supporters voted Ray Clemence as the best goalkeeper in Liverpool history. On value, consistency and honours, few could argue with the Englishman's selection at No.1 in this list either. The stopper was a model of consistency across 13 years between the posts at Anfield, breaking a plethora of records in the process. Among them was a feat which is unlikely ever to be matched - 'Clem' played every single match as the Reds conceded just 16 league goals during the 1978-79 campaign. For an investment of £18,000, the club received a phenomenal reward; the 'keeper hoisted aloft three European Cups, five First Division titles, one FA Cup, one League Cup and two UEFA Cups.
