Liverpool have been linked with a £42.5million move for Juventus' Arturo Vidal, who is a also a target for Manchester United.
Vidal played a key role in Juve's Serie A success last season and impressed for Chile at the World Cup in Brazil this summer.
United have been linked with the 27-year-old for some time but the Metro have claimed Liverpool are planning to hijack their rivals' move by matching their reported £42.5million offer.
It has been suggested the fact Liverpool can offer Champions League football would see them move ahead of United in the race to sign the Chilean but it remains to be seen as to whether Juve are open to a sale.
The Italian champions have stressed on a number of occasions that Vidal is not for sale and even an offer of £42.5million may not be enough to convince them to cash in on the Chilean.
