Arsene Wenger has denied that Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Brazilian wonderkid Bernard.
The Gunners looked to have jumped ahead of Liverpool and north London rivals Tottenham in the race to sign the £21million-rated attacking midfielder.
Reports in France on Monday suggested that a deal had been agreed with the player's club Atletico Mineiro and that the 20-year-old would fly into London on Thursday to have a medical.
But when quizzed on the transfer after Arsenal's 3-1 friendly win over Nagoya Grampus on Monday Wenger simply said: 'Those reports are not true.'
Borussia Dortmund, Shakhtar Donetsk and Porto are also interested in the Brazil international, who is predominantly left-footed but can play anywhere across the midfield.
Bernard, who stands at just 5ft 5in, has made five appearances for his country.
