Liverpool are said to have made an offer for Fiorentina's Juan Manuel Vargas, and have been linked with Barcelona's Ibrahim Afellay.
It is reported that the Reds have put in a bid in the region of £11.5 million for Peruvian international Vargas.
However, it is speculated that for the Anfield outfit to land the 27-year-old they would have to increase any offer.
Vargas has impressed since joining Serie A outfit Fiorentina in 2008 and has shown his flexibility being able to play at both left wing and as a left wing-back.
With that in mind it is thought Viola would want a lot more money before contemplating selling the former Catania player.
Affelay, meanwhile, is a player that Liverpool have been linked with before.
He joined Barcelona from PSV Eindhoven in January but has not enjoyed regular first-team football with eight appearances and may relish the chance of a move from the Nou Camp to kick start his career.
The 24-year-old, who can play as an attacking midfielder or on the flank, is thought to be valued at around £5 million.
