Liverpool target Diego Capel is being courted by French club Marseille.

The 25-year-old Sporting Lisbon midfielder is being closely monitored by a number of sides across Europe, including the Merseyside club and Atletico Madrid.

But French newspaper L'Equipe claims the Ligue 1 outfit is ready to win the race for the winger's signature and have started negotiations with a £3m bid.

However, Lisbon are unwilling to part with the man they have under contract until June 2016 for less than their valuation of £6m, so a round of bidding is set to ensue.

Capel, who was a transfer target for Tottenham back in 2008, made 26 league appearances last season and scored five goals.
