Luis Suarez played the full 90 minutes as Uruguay secured the final place at the 2014 World Cup with a 0-0 draw against Jordan in Montevideo.

Washington Tabarez's side were all but assured of their place in Brazil after winning 5-0 in the first leg in Amman last week and they did more than enough to finish the job at the Centenario Stadium.

"We're all happy because the truth is it's been a hard road," said striker Edinson Cavani. "We have to enjoy it."

While the home fans were hungry for goals, Uruguay were in no rush to take any risks and Paris Saint-Germain striker Cavani was the only man who looked like troubling the visitors as he fired wide after beating two defenders.

Three minutes before the break, defender Diego Godin headed towards goal but the ball rebounded off the bar.

Jordan goalkeeper Mohamad Shatnawi kept Uruguay at bay in the second half, keeping out a Diego Lugano header and Cavani's angled effort.

But the lack of goals mattered little to the hosts as they cruised through to the World Cup finals.

Liverpool will be hoping the exertions of the match are not enough to rule Suarez out of their important Merseyside derby on Saturday lunchtime.

The striker has been given the use of a private jet owned by the club's principle owner John W. Henry to ensure a swift return to England.

The early exit will enable Suarez to be back in Liverpool on Thursday rather than Friday afternoon.
