Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has turned his attention to Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand as he bids to bolster his defence.
The Reds had been tracking Alberto Moreno but were unable to reach an agreement with Spanish side Sevilla and have now ended their interest, while Ben Davies was also thought to be a target but he has joined Spurs from Swansea this week.
It has now been claimed Rodgers is plotting a move for Bertrand, who the Liverpool boss worked with during his time coaching with Chelsea's academy.
Chelsea are open to selling the 24-year-old following the capture of left-back Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid, with reports suggesting an £8million fee will be enough to convince the Londoners to let him go.
Liverpool are also expected to secure centre-half Dejan Lovren from Southampton this week as Rodgers strengthens his defence ahead of the 2014-15 campaign.
