Liverpool are close to making Valencia full-back Aly Cissokho their fifth summer signing.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has already brought in Simon Mignolet, Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas this summer, but has vowed to continue signing more players.
A new left-back is among the priorities, and after seeing an offer to sign Chelsea's Ryan Bertrand turned down Rodgers has moved in for Valencia ace Cissokho.
According to reports in Spain, Liverpool have struck an agreement to bring the Frenchman to Anfield on a one-year loan deal, with the option to make it permanent in 12 months' time.
The Reds would be handing over a loan fee of around £850,000, and are just waiting on the green light from the player to complete the transfer.
Cissokho, a previous target for Arsenal and Newcastle, made just 25 appearances in his first season with Valencia after joining from Lyon, and is keen to move on.
The 25-year-old will provide competition to Jose Enrique and Jack Robinson in the left-back berth.
