Liverpool are closing in on a loan deal for Valencia defender Aly Cissokho.

Brendan Rodgers is on the hunt for a new left-back - reports at the weekend suggested he had made an unsuccessful attempt to land Ryan Bertrand from Chelsea - and Cissokho is a long-standing target.

Terra claim Valencia and Liverpool are in advanced negotiations, with the Reds prepared to pay an initial loan fee of £850,000 with the option to buy him outright for £3.4m next summer.

The one-cap France international moved to the Mestalla from Lyon only last summer but the Spanish club's financial difficulties have forced them to cash in on him.

Cissokho, who first came to prominence during his spell at Porto, made 25 La Liga appearances last season and scored twice.
