It was raining goals at Anfield on September 17th 1974, as Liverpool demolished Norwegian part-timers Stromsgodset 11-0 in a record victory. It was a fitting way to mark Bob Paisley's first European tie as boss.

No one expected Liverpool to lose the 1988 FA Cup Final except Wimbledon. The underdogs went on to produce a big cup shock by winning 1-0 thanks to a goal from Lawrie Sanchez. John Aldridge also missed a penalty.

The first all Merseyside Cup Final was the 1984 Milk Cup when Liverpool played Everton at Wembley. Thousands of fans, red and blue travelled together to London. After a draw at Wembley, Liverpool won the replay.

Leading 3-1 from the first leg Liverpool went to Italy confident of reaching the European Cup Final. A Spanish referee by the name of Ortiz de Mendibil was to have other ideas though as Inter came back to win. Shankly was furious.
