No.3: Steve Heighway
Winger Steve Heighway took an altogether different path into professional football than most of his peers - the Irishman was a university graduate who played at non-league level as he completed his studies. Bob Paisley was astonished when he first scouted the man who has been immortalised forever in Kop song. Shankly brought him to Anfield in 1970 as he built a second great Liverpool team and Heighway drove down the wing tirelessly in Red. By the time he left the club, the flying winger had racked up close to 500 appearances, contributed 76 goals, scored in two FA Cup finals and collected 11 major honours.
