No.4: Kevin Keegan
As this list proves, Shankly's eye for talent was exceptional - and he stumbled upon pure gold when he spotted a diminutive midfielder at Scunthorpe. It was further forward, however, where Kevin Keegan would inflict damage on opponents at home and abroad, establishing himself as a national superstar along the way. Shankly, who became a genuine father figure to Keegan during his time at Liverpool, brought the Englishman to Anfield in 1971 and partnered him with John Toshack in attack to devastating effect. Keegan fired 52 goals in three seasons under Shankly, collecting a First Division title, an FA Cup and a UEFA Cup in the process. He remains one of the greatest No.7s in club history.
