No.6: Ron Yeats
A pivotal moment during the early stages of Shankly's tenure was the £22,000 signing of Scottish defender and 'colossus' Ron Yeats. The powerful, no-nonsense centre-back kept goals out at one end for the Reds while his compatriot Ian St John plundered them at the other. Famously, he was also the model when the boss unveiled Liverpool's new all-Red kit for all to see. Yeats went on to play more than 450 matches for the club across a decade of service, helping the Reds return to the top flight, win the First Division twice and collect a first-ever FA Cup along the way.
